Tatyana Ali Honors James Avery in Emotional 'DWTS' Tribute

Tatyana Ali and Alfonso Ribeiro delivered a heartfelt tribute to their late 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' co-star James Avery during Dancing With the Stars' Dedication Night ^[1]. The duo performed a Viennese waltz with professional dancer Jan Ravnik, weaving emotional nods to their shared past on the iconic 1990s sitcom. The performance, which aired on October 20, 2026, was widely praised for its sincerity and connection to the show’s legacy.

Ali, 47, took to TikTok the following day to reflect on why she chose to honor Avery, who played the beloved Uncle Phil. In a brief video, she shared her personal connection to the role and the impact Avery had on her career and life ^[2]. Her quiet, thoughtful message resonated with fans, many of whom noted the significance of the tribute during a night dedicated to honoring departed stars.

The moment marked a poignant reunion between two former co-stars, both of whom have continued to carry the 'Fresh Prince' legacy forward. Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks, has long been a staple of the franchise’s cultural footprint, while Ali, known for her role as Ashley Banks, has remained active in entertainment and advocacy.

Ali also subtly reacted to a recent comment made by fellow pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy about the 'Fresh Prince' franchise, though the nature of the comment has not been confirmed and the claim is reported by one source only ^[2]. The focus remained on the tribute to Avery, whose passing in 2013 left a lasting void in the entertainment community. The emotional performance underscored the enduring bond among the original cast and the lasting impact of the show’s message of family, humor, and resilience.

What happens next? The next episode of Dancing With the Stars season 35 will feature more celebrity tributes and high-stakes dancing, with Ali and Ribeiro continuing their journey on the ballroom floor. The story was first reported by New York Post and Us Weekly.
