Hallmark's 'Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story' blends romance and football

Hallmark Channel has released its latest entry in the beloved Holiday Touchdown franchise: 'Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story,' now streaming ^[1]. The film follows Avery (Lyndsy Fonseca), a New York-based journalist visiting her mother in Chicago, where she discovers her mom is a devoted Chicago Bears fan running a sports bar with her husband. While there, Avery meets firefighter Matt (Robert Buckley), with whom she shares instant chemistry—but her lack of football allegiance creates playful tension.

The plot thickens when Avery is assigned to write a profile of a legendary Bears fan for the Chicago Herald, only to learn it’s Matt’s grandmother, Darlene (Marsha Mason), a four-time Oscar nominee who brings warmth and humor to the role ^[1]. Mason’s performance as the optimistic, matchmaking matriarch stands out, adding emotional depth to the film’s lighthearted tone.

The movie blends romance, football culture, and small-town Chicago charm, with cameos from Bears players, staff, and wives, as well as brief appearances by Marilu Henner and Tamera Mowry-Housley ^[1]. Abraham Benrubi reprises his role as Santa Claus, a recurring Easter egg in the franchise.

Despite its predictable rom-com structure, the film earns its place in Hallmark’s holiday canon through its celebration of community, fandom, and connection ^[1]. The chemistry between Fonseca and Buckley, combined with the affectionate portrayal of the Bears’ legacy, makes it a must-watch for fans of feel-good cinema.

What happens next? The film’s success may signal another year of NFL-Hallmark collaborations, with potential for future installments featuring other franchises.
