Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.'s ex-fiancée, reportedly pleaded with a Trump donor to wire $100,000 directly to her American Express account just days before her confirmation hearing to become the U.S. ambassador to Greece [1, 2]. Signal messages reviewed by The Wall Street Journal allegedly show Guilfoyle messaging former Kentucky congressional candidate Eric Deters in July 2025 with an urgent request for the payment, which she claimed would not leave a paper trail [1].

“Honey please I need you to get this done for me today,” Guilfoyle, 57, reportedly wrote on July 3, just six days before her July 9 hearing [1, 2]. She then provided Deters with a PDF containing instructions for settling an AmEx bill, adding, “It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express that’s all that will show. Please” [1, 2].

Deters, 63, ultimately declined to send the money, reportedly telling Guilfoyle it would ruin his marriage [1, 2]. He had previously promised Guilfoyle up to $1 million if she helped him with his personal tax and legal issues within the Trump administration [1, 2]. Guilfoyle allegedly told him, “I will be your Trump ride or die, forever and ever” if he paid her bill [1].

Deters told the Journal that Guilfoyle “never came through on anything” regarding his issues [2]. Guilfoyle's attorney, Jesse Binnall, told the Journal that she disputes the authenticity of the messages but did not provide specifics. The New York Post reported that the American Embassy in Athens did not immediately respond to their requests for comment, though an official defended her record to the Journal.

Guilfoyle was confirmed as ambassador to Greece 51-47 on September 18, 2025, after appearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee [2]. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, when questioned about the story in Greece, declined to address it, stating, “That’s not the way we do things”.

Deters reportedly knew Guilfoyle since 2020 and paid her a total of $300,000 to speak at his anti-COVID mandate event, Freedom Fest, and subsequent editions [2]. He also donated $125,000 to a pro-Trump PAC in 2022. Throughout their correspondence, Guilfoyle reportedly urged Deters to be discreet, writing in one message, “What a nightmare, you’ll literally cost me my ambassadorship stop writing”.
