Arne Slot has taken his first role since being sacked as Liverpool manager, joining UEFA's Technical Observer Group [1]. The Dutchman was dismissed at the end of last season after a disappointing title defence saw the Reds finish fifth and narrowly qualify for the Champions League.

Slot, who guided Liverpool to a second Premier League title in five years upon joining in 2024, has been linked with the Netherlands national team job following Ronald Koeman’s exit after their last-32 World Cup exit [1]. However, Slot has denied the speculation, stating he never progressed to formal talks and that he remains committed to club management.

He told Voetbal International: "That speculation is incorrect. We simply never got to that stage of the talks. At this stage of my career, I prefer to see myself on the training field with my players every day" [1].

The appointment to UEFA’s observer group places Slot alongside former Liverpool bosses Rafa Benitez and Roy Hodgson, as well as Gareth Southgate, Erik ten Hag, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Thomas Frank, and Ange Postecoglou [1]. The group uses stats and video analysis to produce detailed reports on coaching trends across the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, which are shared across the football community.

Slot made his name at Feyenoord, leading them to the UEFA Conference League final in 2022 and winning an Eredivisie title and Dutch Cup in the following two seasons [1]. The Netherlands role ultimately went to Spanish icon Xavi, who signed a four-year deal through to the 2030 World Cup.

Slot has not ruled out a return to club management, reaffirming his belief that club football still holds significant appeal for him [1]. The story was first reported by Mirror.
